Y’ALL! Today is my 21st birthday and that blows my mind! In some ways I don’t feel “old enough” to be 21 but because of my “old soul” it feels like I’ve been a grandma for years. (Just ask anyone who knows me, I’m usually in bed by 9 every night if my schedule allows it.)
I wanted to use this post to celebrate by listing 21 things that I learned throughout my life before today. I’ve learned so many valuable lessons in my 21 years on Earth and I wanted to share those with y’all! So here goes nothing:
1. It’s okay to be messy.
We aren’t made to be perfect, we are made to be messy so that others can see Christ’s perfection in the midst of our messiness.
2. My purpose in life is NOT to get married.
My purpose is not to get married. It is not to be a mom. It is not to do this or do that. My purpose in life is to glorify Jesus with everything I say, do, or think, which might include honoring Him through marriage, but marriage is not my purpose.
3. Coffee is one of the greatest blessings on Earth.
It is just simply the best. And if I don’t have my coffee, you better watch out because I can assure you, I will be grumpy.
4. Treat Yo-self every now and then!
It’s okay to have a doughnut or a big piece of chocolate cake every now and then. Life is way too short to not eat good food.
5. Family is essential.
Never, ever, ever, take your family for granted. They are a fundamental part of life. These are the people God gave you to walk through every season of your life with. These people HAVE to love you because you’re related… and if you don’t have a family that loves you, COME JOIN MINE! The more, the merrier.
6. Life is too short to settle.
That guy you’re talking to that doesn’t treat you the right way? Yeah, say goodbye him. Don’t settle and have faith that God will provide someone who will treat you above and beyond the right way, and once God brings him into your life, you’ll be glad you didn’t settle.
7. Chase your dreams, even if it’s scary.
Maybe your dream is starting a blog about Jesus? Go for it! It doesn’t matter what it is, just do it. Yes, it’s scary but it’s so worth it!
8. Sometimes you have to say no.
It is completely okay and completely necessary sometimes to say no to things. Don’t stretch yourself too thin.
9. Eat more ice cream.
No need to explain this one…
10. Surround yourself with good, honest, and gracious friends.
They will have your back through thick and thin. And if you don’t have any great Godly friends, start praying and ask God to bring someone into your life! My best friend and I went to middle school together but we were never close until high school, which was after both of us had been praying for a Godly friend for MONTHS. And since then, God has brought many more great Godly best friends into my life.
11. Talk to someone about Jesus.
Anyone. Everyone. Just do it. It may be awkward and totally out of your comfort zone but God will reward you for it.
12. Go out of your way to serve others.
Sometimes it’s more beneficial to you than it is to the person you’re serving.
13. Forgive. Forgive. Forgive.
The person forgiveness really frees is yourself.
14. It’s okay not to know.
It is completely okay not to know what you want to do with the rest of your life. It’s okay not to know why a relationship didn’t work out. It’s okay not to know why bad things happen to good people. It’s okay not to know.
15. Go on road trips with your friends, even if it’s a short day trip to a city that’s 30 minutes down the road. You will make memories that will last a lifetime.
16. Honesty is the best policy.
Honesty wins every time, even when the truth hurts.
17. Be kind to your parents.
Don’t take them for granted. Tell them thank you and hug them extra tight. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
18. Pursue excellence over perfection.
You don’t always have to be perfect. Perfection is an endless pursuit. Excellence is achievable. And it’s achieved by seeking Christ.
19. Leggings are one of the greatest inventions in the world. Wear them and rock it! (Just cover your behind)
20. Be kind.
It will never go out of style.
21. Giving your life to Jesus, is literally the best thing in the world. He will change your life for the better. You won’t regret it.
These 21 things are just a few life lessons I’ve learned over the years. However, the most important thing I’ve learned is that God is good all the time and all the time God is good. That’s not just a cute saying , it’s pure TRUTH.
But what about you? What’s something you’ve learned that is worth sharing? Let us know in the comments!
Thanks for celebrating with me today!
