Y’ALL, it is a brand spankin’ new year. I can hardly believe that it is already 2017. God moved in incredible ways in 2016. We launched our blog, we made new friendships, and we experienced the power of Jesus in so many amazing ways. We are so thankful for everything that happened in 2016, but we can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store.
With each new year, comes many new things. New people, new friendships, new relationships, new goals, new dreams, new aspirations, and new resolutions.
The top two New Year’s resolutions are to stay fit and healthy and to lose weight. Losing weight and staying healthy can be a challenge. It takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication. But, I’m about let you in on the absolute best weight loss secret ever…
Get rid of your burdens.
Yup, you read that right… There’s no secret formula, magic pill, or killer workout routine… You don’t need to lift more weights, you need to let go of some weight.
A “burden”, by definition, is a load, especially a heavy one. Burdens are heavy, y’all. Have you ever tried to carry around a heavy bag all day? It’s easy at first, but after some time it begins to take a toll on you. By the end of the day you just don’t want to carry it around anymore. It makes your shoulders sore, your neck ache, and it makes you grumpy. Burdens are a lot like that heavy bag. They weigh you down and linger like the unwanted baggage they are. They stick around and cause problems within families, within relationships, and within friendships. They become a literal weight in your life.
Maybe your burden is an unhealthy relationship. Maybe it’s the pain of a loved one gone way too soon. Maybe your burden is the fact that you’re struggling to finish out the next semester strong. Maybe it’s anxiety about the future. Whatever your burden may be, you’ve gotta let go of it, sweet friend.
Letting go of your burdens is a choice. A choice that you might need to make weekly, daily, or even hourly… It’s not easy, but in letting go of your burdens and letting the Heavenly Father take that weight off of you will bring you a freedom unlike any you’ve ever felt.
If you’re having trouble letting go, here are a few tips that might help:
- Trust Jesus, not your own understanding. – Proverbs 3:5
- Kick out anxiety with prayer. – Philippians 4:6
- Rely on the Lord to bring joy into your circumstance. – Psalm 94:19
- Give your burden to The Lord and He will sustain you. – Psalm 55:22
- Find rest in Jesus. – Matthew 11:28-30
- Spend time in the presence of the Lord daily. – Jeremiah 29:13
My challenge for you as you head into the new year is this:
Walk into this new year carrying around less weight. Shed the weight and hand it over to Jesus. Lay it at His feet and NEVER pick it back up again. Then victoriously walk in the path of freedom that He set out for us. Because once you let go of that heavy baggage, you’ll be able to experience the joy of The Lord on a whole new level. Get on that level this new year.
DISCLAIMER: I had the hardest time writing this post. I knew I wanted this post to be about how to shed some serious weight going into the new year, but I struggled big time while writing it. I couldn’t figure out why I was having such a hard time until I stopped, grabbed my Bible, spent some time with my sweet Jesus, and THEN it hit me. I was struggling to write it because I’ve been struggling with giving up my burdens too… How am I supposed to encourage others to do something when I, myself, am having such a hard time with it. So, friend, I want to encourage you because I’m walking the same walk that you are. I am going through the same things that you are. I am having the same hard times that you are. We are in this together. So, take my hand and let’s shed some serious weight together.
Happy New Year loves!
